Authors and Mr Darcy
Mr Darcy is AI-powered interactive romance fiction. Readers talk with written characters, in character, inside their stories. This page sets out how that works, and what we promise the authors who write for it.
How it works
Every character on Mr Darcy is written before he says a word: who he is, where he comes from, how he talks, what he would never say. The AI plays him from that writing. The reader sets the scene and decides where it goes.
Nothing is published. No book or manuscript comes out of Mr Darcy.
What we don't do
We don't train AI models.
Not on authors' books, not on anything.
We don't use an author's book unless they ask us to.
A character is built from a profile the author writes with us. If an author wants him to know his own story, they decide what he knows.
We don't write books.
The AI plays characters in conversation. Writing novels is the author's work, and it stays theirs.
We don't use anyone's characters without permission.
Our cast is our own original characters and classic heroes from books long in the public domain. Any other author's character is here because that author said yes.
We don't pretend.
Characters are fiction. We never claim they are real, or that they feel anything.
When an author brings a character
Some authors bring a character to Mr Darcy by invitation: a hero from their books, or one written for Mr Darcy. When they do:
Their books stay theirs.
We never take ownership of an author's books, or of the characters they have already published.
The terms come first, in writing.
Every author has an agreement with us before anything is built, covering rights, credit and earnings.
They write him with us.
We build him together, from their profile, in their words.
They approve him first.
Nothing goes live until the author has tested him and signed off on his voice.
They earn.
Authors earn from the readers they bring. They never pay us anything.

Only if the author wants him to. The author decides what he knows.
